LEGAL TERMS
Terms of Service & Protocol Rules
These Terms govern your use of MNDO software, protocols, and infrastructure. By using MNDO, you agree to these terms and acknowledge the technical reality of decentralized networks.
Sole Responsibility for Cryptographic Credentials
Your 12-word recovery phrase is the only method of recovering your MNDO cryptographic identity. MNDO has no centralized password reset service, no backdoors, and no access to your private keys. You are solely responsible for securely backing up your credentials. If you lose your recovery phrase, MNDO cannot recover your identity, contacts, or encrypted message history.
01 · AGREEMENT
Acceptance of terms and eligibility
A. Acceptance
By downloading, building, installing, or connecting to MNDO software, accessing the website at mndo.online, or utilizing associated relay services, you enter into a legally binding agreement governed by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms in their entirety, you must immediately discontinue use of MNDO software and delete the application.
B. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years of age (or the minimum legal age of digital consent in your jurisdiction) and possess the legal capacity to enter into binding agreements. You represent that your use of MNDO does not violate any applicable local, national, or international law, sanction, or regulation.
02 · IDENTITY MODEL
Cryptographic identity architecture
MNDO does not operate traditional user accounts. Understanding this distinction is foundational.
Unlike conventional messaging platforms that assign you a database record tied to a phone number or email address, MNDO generates an asymmetric cryptographic keypair (Ed25519 / Curve25519) directly on your device. Your identity is defined mathematically by your public key.
- You own and custody your private signing keys and ratchet state.
- No MNDO server has administrative access to modify, revoke, or reassign your keys.
- Account recovery relies exclusively on your 12-word seed phrase or local device backups.
03 · BOUNDARIES
Classification of user content & metadata
Review the precise technical status of data transmitted or stored across MNDO.
MNDO Data Classification & Exposure Matrix
Clear cryptographic boundaries: distinguish what is encrypted, what is public, and what relays can observe.
| Data Category | Encryption Status | Publicly Visible? | Who Can Potentially Access It? |
|---|---|---|---|
Private message plaintext | E2EE (Signal Double Ratchet) | No | Conversation endpoints only |
Private message ciphertext | Encrypted payload | No (Ciphertext) | Nostr relays & network carriers |
Private media attachments | Client-side encrypted blob | No | Storage host sees only encrypted blob & hash |
Public profile (Name, bio) | None (Plain Nostr event) | Yes | Anyone querying relay events |
Public posts & reactions | None | Yes | Network peers & relay users |
Recovery phrase (12 words) | Local keystore secret | No | Local user device only; never transmitted |
Public key / Identifier | No secrecy intended | Yes | Publicly discoverable across the mesh |
Relay & network metadata | Transport-level | Relay-visible | Independent relay operators (IP, timing, frequency) |
04 · CONTENT RIGHTS
User content and public broadcasts
Ownership & Limited License
You retain all intellectual property rights and ownership in the content you create. By transmitting content through MNDO, you grant MNDO the strictly limited, non-exclusive technical license necessary to route, relay, and display that content as instructed by your client.
Public Broadcast Disclaimer
Content marked as public (posts, reactions, profile metadata) is published to the open Nostr protocol. Independent relay operators and users may mirror, cache, and archive this data. MNDO cannot enforce deletion across third-party network nodes once published.
05 · CONDUCT
Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)
You agree to use MNDO responsibly. The following activities are strictly prohibited.
Unlawful Activity
Engaging in or facilitating illegal acts, terror financing, or severe harm under applicable law.
Malware & Exploits
Distributing viruses, trojans, ransomware, or attempting unauthorized access to relays or devices.
Spam & Sybil Flooding
Automated event spamming, relay resource exhaustion, denial-of-service, or network disruption.
Credential Theft
Phishing, social engineering, key theft, or intercepting seed phrases of third parties.
Harassment & Threats
Defamatory speech, targeted threats of violence, extortion, or non-consensual tracking.
Infrastructure Sabotage
Exploiting relay vulnerabilities to disrupt communications for legitimate network participants.
06 · RESPONSIBILITY
End-to-End encryption does not excuse unlawful conduct
MNDO implements Signal Double Ratchet end-to-end encryption for private messaging. Because the cryptography prevents MNDO maintainers, relay operators, and network intermediaries from inspecting private message plaintext, you bear sole legal and moral responsibility for all communications, files, and media you transmit.
Encryption is a privacy tool, not a shield against legal liability. Misusing cryptographic tools for criminal enterprises remains punishable under applicable law.
07 · NETWORK LIMITATIONS
Limits of decentralized infrastructure
Because MNDO does not own or control the global Nostr network, specific operational guarantees cannot be made.
MNDO expressly disclaims guarantees regarding external network conditions. Specifically, MNDO cannot guarantee that:
08 · SUSPENSION SCOPE
Scope of infrastructure access restriction
The Decentralized Sanction Distinction
In a centralized app, administrators can "delete your account" or "ban your identity from the protocol." In MNDO, we cannot confiscate your cryptographic keypair or ban your identity from the decentralized Nostr network.
However, MNDO maintains absolute authority to restrict, suspend, or terminate an identity's access to:
- Official MNDO-hosted relay infrastructure.
- Official MNDO prekey directory and discovery endpoints.
- MNDO-operated Blossom media storage nodes.
- Official MNDO push notification gateway infrastructure.
09 · INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
Software license and brand guidelines
AGPLv3 Open Source License
The MNDO client codebase is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 (AGPLv3). You are free to inspect, audit, modify, and distribute the code under the condition that derivative works preserve the same license and publish their source code.
Branding & Trademarks
The MNDO name, logo, iconography, and original site documentation are proprietary marks of the project maintainer. The AGPLv3 license does not grant permission to use MNDO trademarks for commercial branding without written consent.
10 · SECURITY RESEARCH
Responsible disclosure and vulnerability guidelines
We welcome security researchers who examine MNDO's cryptographic implementations in good faith. If you identify a vulnerability, report it privately to risvandev@gmail.com before any public disclosure. We will work with you to verify and patch the issue promptly. Malicious exploitation of vulnerabilities against live users or infrastructure will be reported to appropriate law enforcement authorities.
11 · LEGAL DISCLAIMERS
Disclaimers of warranties and limitation of liability
Disclaimer of Warranties ("As-Is")
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, MNDO SOFTWARE AND SERVICES ARE PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, STATUTORY, OR OTHERWISE, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SOFTWARE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, BUG-FREE, IMMUNE FROM MALICIOUS ACTORS, OR THAT MESSAGES WILL ALWAYS BE DELIVERED TIMELY.
Limitation of Liability
IN NO EVENT SHALL THE MAINTAINERS, CONTRIBUTORS, OR AFFILIATES OF MNDO BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF CRYPTOGRAPHIC KEYS, LOSS OF PROFITS, HARDWARE CORRUPTION, DEVICE COMPROMISE, OR SERVICE INTERRUPTION, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OR INABILITY TO USE MNDO, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
12 · GOVERNING LAW
Jurisdiction and applicable legal venue
These Terms and any dispute arising from or related to MNDO shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of India, without regard to conflict of law principles. You agree that any legal action or proceeding shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts in Ernakulam / Kochi, Kerala, India.
Modifications to Terms
We reserve the right to amend these Terms at any time. Changes will be reflected with an updated "Last Updated" timestamp and committed to our GitHub repository. Continued use of MNDO after such modifications constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
